FAQs for the Westbrook Program

What's Gifted Savings?
Gifted Savings is a non-profit that makes it simple and rewarding for donors to gift investment assets directly to whole groups of people (like students in a high school!) so each person can create their own opportunities.

Once you're verified as a student in a qualified high school, we'll gift you $1,000 in investments that you can access once you turn 18 and complete the academic year.

In the meantime, Gifted Savings will help you learn about your investments through bite-sized action items about once every 2 weeks for one academic year so you can make the most of the opportunities that this gift can unlock.
Who are the donors and why have they gifted me investments?
Our donors come from all different backgrounds and walks of life. They give to Gifted Savings because they believe in giving back and empowering people to create opportunities for themselves and their communities.

If you’re interested in becoming a donor or know of someone who may be interested, please reach out to us at [email protected].
Who's eligible to receive Gifted Savings?
Every single current senior at Westbrook High School (2024-2025) is eligible to receive $1,000 worth of investments in their Gifted Savings portfolio.
How can join Gifted Savings?
To join Gifted Savings, recipients must:

1. Sign up to receive Gifted Savings, which includes uploading a quick video, before Friday, September 20, 2024.
2. Complete a survey at the beginning and end of the program.

When can I access my Gifted Savings portfolio?
You can gain access to your Gifted Savings portfolio once all 3 conditions have been met:

1. The 2024-2025 academic year has ended (so that you have a chance to complete your action items and learn about your investments)
2. You've turned 18 and become a legal adult.
3. You've completed a survey at the beginning AND end of the program.
What's an action item?
Action items are bite-sized activities that help you learn about the investments you were gifted and think through how best to use them.

For example, one of the action items we have explains what the Vanguard VUG ETF is, which is one of the investments you were gifted in your GIfted Savings portfolio. We usually create a short video explaining a concept, then we'll ask you to share a short video explaining what you learned.
How much time do I need to commit to the program?
The program is designed to fit into your schedule with 15 minute activities once every two weeks or so for one academic year. You can progress at your own pace and complete tasks as you have time.
What can I use my Gifted Savings on?
Once you turn 18, you get to decide how to use your Gifted Savings portfolio.

You can choose to hold your investment assets for potential growth or sell them to use towards your goals.

Our challenge to you is to learn about investments and think intentionally about how you can use them to create the biggest positive impact for yourself or your community.
How can I double or even 10x my investments?
We want to encourage you to learn about your investments and be engaged with this new pilot program. That’s why we’ve created opportunities for recipients to potentially double or even 10x their investment portfolios.

Here’s how you can be eligible for the 2x or 10x incentive:

1. Immerse Yourself in the Action Items
Engage fully with the action items to expand your investing knowledge. The more you fully complete, the stronger your comprehension, better positioning you for the 2x or 10x prize.

2. Create High-Quality Video Submissions
Submit clear, authentic videos that reflect your progress, personality, and passion. Your videos don’t need to be fancy, but they should be well-organized and thoughtfully presented.

3. Develop a Personal Impact Plan
Your Personal Impact Plan is your roadmap for how your investments will shape your future. A clear, actionable plan sets you apart and guides you toward the prize.

4. Provide Meaningful Feedback
Help shape the program by giving honest and thoughtful feedback through anonymous surveys. Active, engaged participants are more likely to stand out as top performers.

Please check out this rubric for more details on how you can give yourself the best chance to double or 10x your investments.

By excelling in learning, presenting, planning, and providing feedback, you’ll increase your chances of winning a 2x or 10x boost to your portfolio!
How can I withdraw my Gifted Savings?
Once all required conditions have been met (see above for details), you can withdraw assets by logging into your Gifted Savings account and going to your Portfolio.

There, you'll see a "Withdraw" button where you can specify how much you'd like to withdraw and what you'd like to use the assets on. Additionally, you'll be asked to share a short video about what you're planning to use the funds on and why it's important to you.

This feedback helps us understand the impact of the gift and helps us improve the program for the many other high school students who will receive Gifted Savings in the future.
